Plastic pollution

Plastic pollution has become one of the most pressing environmental issues, as rapidly increasing production of disposable plastic products overwhelms the world’s ability to deal with them. Plastic pollution is most visible in developing Asian and African nations, where garbage collection systems are often inefficient or nonexistent. But the developed world, especially in countries with low recycling rates, also has trouble properly collecting discarded plastics. Plastic trash has become so ubiquitous it has prompted efforts to write a global treaty negotiated by the United Nations.

What to do with your PET plastic bottles ?

Light of Hope PH started a project in 2017 that upcycles the PET plastic bottles into a solar night lamps and utilize solar energy to power the LED light. Spreading awareness on climate change the team does workshops in schools, universities, companies and communities, engaging many volunteers specially the youth.

Also had an opportunity to present the project to an international NGO, Vriendschapsband Haarlemmermeer Cebu through the help of Cebu City Councilor Alvin M. Dizon. The VHC has been supporting the advocacy of the Light Of Hope PH in uplifting the lives of the less privileged off-the-grid communities and in mitigating climate change through their social impact initiatives.

Project Impact

Through the help of passionate volunteers and donors the Solar Night Lamps in a Bottle Project, was able to help 1400 family beneficiaries, upcycled 2800 PET plastic bottles, engaged more than a thousand volunteers and was able to help reduce / avoid 182,000 kg of CO2 emissions per year.
