Energy Poverty

According to the latest data released, 789 million people globally still lack access to electricity and 2.8 billion people—over a third of the world’s population—are unable to cook cleanly and safely and this includes 13 million people in the Philippines. The biggest reason for this is poverty, the families or communities could not afford to pay for electricity connection and some communities are in far flung areas that is not reachable by the power grid.

Climate Change

Global climate change has already had observable effects on the environment. Glaciers have shrunk, ice on rivers and lakes is breaking up earlier, plant and animal ranges have shifted and trees are flowering sooner. Effects that scientists had predicted in the past would result from global climate change are now occurring: loss of sea ice, accelerated sea level rise and longer, more intense heat waves. Severe weather conditions are experienced globally, especially here in the Philippines that is being visited by 20 typhoons per year, and the intensity of this typhons are getting stronger and stronger over the years and we need to do something about it.

What is a Cloudgrid Project ?

Cloudgrid Project by Light Of Hope PH, aims to uplift the lives of the less privileged off-the-grid communities by providing affordable clean energy access and helping to mitigate climate change through the use of clean renewable energy technologies and IoT technologies. It is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development goals #SDG7 - Affordable and Clean Energy, and #SDG13 - Climate Action.

Sitio Cadulang Beneficiaries

Like nanay Rona, most of the families in Sitio Cadulang community have been living without access to electricity and are using kerosene lamps to light up their homes at night.

Benefits of the Cloudgrid Project

Cloudgrid units v1 is capable of providing electricity to power LED bulbs and charge mobile devices without doing any harm to the environment, because the cloudgrid units are powered by the energy from the sun. The families are now safe from health and fire hazard that is caused by kerosene lamps and candles. The families are now able to save on energy costs, and use that savings to buy foods and basic needs. Each cloudgrid v1 units can potentially reduce / avoid 130 kg of CO2 emissions per year

The Goal for 2021

Light Of Hope Ph has an ambitious goal for this year 2021, hoping to build and deploy 500 - 1,000 cloudgrid units that will directly benefit 2,500 - 5,000 people and potentially reduce / avoid 65,000 to 130,000 kg of CO2 emissions per year
