Community Beneficiaries
According to the latest data, 789 million people globally still lack access to electricity and 2.8 billion people—over a third of the world’s population—are unable to cook cleanly and safely, this includes 13 million people in the Philippines. Families that are earning below $6 per day are using alternative source of lighting like kerosene lamps or candles to light up their homes at night and burning wood for cooking, which are both health and fire hazard to the families, communities and environment.

Community Livelihood ?
The livelihood or sources of income of the poor communities varies depending on their community locations, for example in urban poor communities, the husbands or fathers are mostly working in construction sites, for rural poor communities mostly the source of income is farming and in island poor communities mostly the sources of income is fishing. All of these livelihoods were severely affected by the covid-19 pandemic and the less privileged communities are now more marginalized than ever.

Other Problems / Needs of the Communities
Water & Sanitation - Nearly 5 million people in the Philippines rely on unsafe and unsustainable water sources and 9 million lack access to improved sanitation. Despite its growing economy, the Philippines faces significant challenges in terms of water and sanitation access. The country is rapidly urbanizing, and its growing cities struggle to provide new residents with adequate water and sanitation services. ~ water.org
Access to information - A recently published study from Carnegie Mellon University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology found that both poverty and race affect young people's access to the Internet. That's an important point when almost every K-12 school has shifted to online instruction, a report on the research noted. Without internet, how can students attend class and fully participate in learning opportunities?
The covid-19 pandemic exacerbates the existing inequalities in access to information through the internet. Overnight, work and education systems went online, and the less privileged communities are now more at a disadvantage situation.
Impact
The Light Of Hope PH is trying to address this problems starting with providing clean energy access to the less privileged off-the-grid communities, though your help and the help of passionate #LightHeroes who are supporting the advocacy, Light Of Hope PH ambitious goal for 2021 is to build and deploy 500 - 1,000 Cloudgrid units, which will directly benefit 2,500 - 5,000 people and potentially offset 65,000 - 130,000 kg of CO2 emissions per year.
How Can I help the Advocacy ?
There are many ways for any individual who wants to help the advocacy and be a #LightHero, 1. check within your communities if there are less privileged off-the-grid families, living without access to electricity for a very long time, you can then run a survey to fully understand their situation ( the survey form can be attained by sending a message to Light Of Hope PH FB page ) 2. Simply share the contents from Light OF Hope PH sites and social media page to social media to spread awareness about climate change. 3. If you also would like to go an extra mile Donations are also accepted.
